Privacy Notice

This notice explains what information this website collects, why, how it is looked after and the choices you have. I have tried to write it plainly. If anything in it is unclear, write to hello@tunjiidowu.com and I will explain.

Who is responsible for your information

I, Tunji Idowu, am responsible for the personal information collected through this website. In data protection law I am its “controller”.

What I collect

When you send an inquiry

The inquiry form on the Connect page asks for:

• the kind of inquiry: Speaking, Media or General;
• your name and email address;
• your organization and a subject, if you choose to give them;
• your message, and anything you decide to include in it.

Please do not include sensitive information, such as details about your health, religious beliefs or finances, unless it is genuinely needed for your inquiry.

Before you send the form, your browser checks the email address for obvious typing mistakes. That check happens on your own device. The form sends your inquiry to me by email; the website itself does not keep a copy of it.

If you write to me directly by email or through LinkedIn, I receive the information you choose to send in the same way.

When you visit the site

You do not need an account to use this site, and it has no comments or sign-up forms.

Like every website, it is served from computers that record basic technical information about each visit, such as your IP address, the type of browser you use, the page you asked for and the time. My hosting provider keeps these records to operate the site and protect it against misuse. I do not use them to identify visitors.

The inquiry form also keeps simple counts of how often it is viewed and sent. These counts help me see whether the form is working and are not used to identify you.

Videos

The Ideas & Engagements page shows preview images for videos that are hosted on YouTube. Those images are loaded from YouTube, so when that page opens YouTube, which is operated by Google, receives your IP address and basic information about your browser.

A video plays only if you choose to play it. It then plays in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode. Once you press play, YouTube may store information on your device and collect information about how you watch, under Google’s own privacy policy.

Links to other websites

This site links to other websites, including BAAMI Advisory, LinkedIn and the media outlets where my interviews appear. Once you follow a link you are on a site I do not control, and that site’s own privacy notice applies.

How I use your information, and why

• To read and respond to your inquiry, and to continue the conversation you started. I do this because you asked me to, and because I have a legitimate interest in replying to people who write to me.
• To keep this website secure and working properly. This is in my legitimate interest and in the interest of everyone who uses the site.
• To meet a legal obligation, if a law ever requires me to keep or disclose information.

I do not use your information for marketing, I do not build profiles of visitors, and I do not make decisions about you by automated means.

Who else can see it

I do not sell or rent personal information. It is seen by others only in these circumstances:

• People who help me manage my correspondence, who may read inquiries on my behalf and are required to keep them confidential.
• The service providers that run this website and my email: my web hosting and security provider, and the provider of the hello@tunjiidowu.com mailbox. They handle information only to provide their service to me.
• YouTube, as described above, when you view the Ideas & Engagements page or play a video.
• BAAMI Advisory, only if your inquiry concerns advisory work that I deliver through BAAMI. I will tell you before I pass it on.
• Authorities or advisers, where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim.

Where your information is processed

My service providers may store or process information outside Nigeria. Where that happens, I rely on providers that protect it with appropriate safeguards, as data protection law requires.

How long I keep it

I keep an inquiry only for as long as I need it to reply to you and to deal with any follow-up, and then I delete it. If our conversation turns into a working relationship, I keep what that relationship needs for as long as it needs it.

Technical records kept by my hosting provider are held for a limited period for security and operational purposes, and are then deleted or anonymized.

How it is protected

Every page of this site, including the inquiry form, is served over an encrypted connection. Access to the site’s administration and to my mailbox is restricted. No method of sending or storing information over the internet is completely secure, but I take reasonable steps to protect what you send me.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, and in particular under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and, for visitors in the United Kingdom or the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to:

• ask whether I hold information about you and receive a copy of it;
• ask me to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
• ask me to delete your information;
• object to, or ask me to limit, how I use it;
• receive information you gave me in a commonly used electronic format;
• withdraw your consent at any time, where I rely on it.

To use any of these rights, write to hello@tunjiidowu.com. I may need to confirm who you are before I act on a request, and I will respond as quickly as I can, within the time the law allows.

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, please tell me first so I can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority: in Nigeria, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission; in the United Kingdom or the European Union, the authority where you live.

Cookies

This site does not set cookies while you browse it. It uses no analytics, advertising or social-media tracking tools. The only exception is a YouTube video you choose to play, as described in the Videos section above.

Children

This site is intended for adults. I do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, please contact me and I will delete it.

Changes to this notice

I will update this notice if the website changes or if the way I use information changes. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised.
